PHPtitle=System requirements

What you need to use phpCAMALEO

The world is in constant evolution, same happen to the software. Version numbers shown here below are there simply to let you know about the development system I use.

While phpCAMALEO may work with versions older than the ones stated here below, it's not guaranteed. If you are already using newer versions you should not face any problem. Anyways feel free to let me know if you are using phpCAMALEO in different environments either successfully or not (in which case some workload is required).

Server (production and public)

Any operating system is fine if you can install the following software:

HTTP Server: Apache is one of the best choices as it is widely used by the hosting services;

PHP with the following extensions:

GD: used to produce images, this includes features such as thumbnails and image verification on login/registration pages;

GZIP: used to compress pages, though this is not essential for operation it will help on the public server.

MySQL Server.

Compatible versions

I am testing phpCAMALEO on two different servers:

Linux Fedora 5: Apache 2.2.2, PHP 5.1.4 (tested with @> 0.0.1), PHP 5.1.6 (tested with @> 0.0.2), MySQL 5.0.22

Windows XP Home: Apache 1.3.33, PHP 4.4.1, MySQL 4.1.15-nt

Production Server

A document editor, anything from a simple text editor (Linux: gedit, kedit; Windows: notepad, write) to a complete development environment like, for example, Zend Studio. If you are going to evaluate Zend Studio, please use the link here below to your first visit at the Zend site. By doing so, if you will decide to buy Zend Studio, you will automatically feed the phpCAMALEO project — at no additional cost!

PHPgetDF=ADS_ZEND$

The following software is NOT required to use phpCAMALEO but it can be helpful if you are developing on a Windows based system when it's time to prepare the data to be uploaded to the public server.

BsdTar: to manipulate archives (.tar, .gz, .z, .bz2, .zip) compression utility;

MD5 GUI: a small (well, relatively..) Windows program that generates and checks MD5 checksums.

You should already have all the other tools you need to edit the code and to prepare the graphics for your site(s). If you have few minutes to spend, feel free to have a look at my recommended development tools page: I am sure it will help you to save of time (and money): trust me!

Client

I do all my programming on the latest stable version of FireFox: its quicker and, in my humble opinion, much better than any other browser I tried so far. However phpCAMALEO is also tested on IE 6.0; any browser you use, JavaScript enabled is the only requirement.
PHPbroIE=

If you do not know it yet, please use the button here below to install FireFox: by doing so you will automatically feed the phpCAMALEO project!

Documentation

Here you can find all the needed documentation to start learning how to customize a phpCAMALEO skin.

If you develop on the Windows platform, never forget that file and directory names are lowerUPPER case sensitive: on a Linux server in fact readme.txt, Readme.txt, README.txt are three different files!

PHPtitle=About Us

Curious to know where phpCAMALEO is born?

phpCAMALEO is my little contribution to the Open Source Community. I didn't know anything about Open Source until a couple of years ago when, after more than 20 years programming in RPG on IBM S/36 and AS/400, I decided to approach some serious Internet site programming.

I sincerely hope this software will be of help to you!

Feed the animal!

phpCAMALEO is a small animal, he does not need a lot of food to survive. Please help me to keep him alive and to support his future development: you can contribute to phpCAMALEO life in different ways.

The easiest — and cheapest(!) — is to place a link on your site (if you have one), blog, forum or where ever you can: I am sure phpCAMALEO will appreciate!

You should also consider, if you can, to make a small donation: even 1$ is important to keep phpCAMALEO alive =)
